Mentor & Coach – Full time

Purpose of the role:  To lead high quality mentoring, rugby, PE and sport & physical activity sessions to inspire children, and their families, to lead active, healthy and happy lifestyles.

​

Location: Office based in Keynsham. Practical delivery will be in schools and leisure facilities throughout Bristol, South Glos, North Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset.

​

Salary: £21,174 - £23,795 (depending on experience)

​

Working hours: 40 hours per week. Hours of work will be predominantly between 9am and 6pm, Monday – Friday; to be agreed prior to start. However, some evening and the occasional weekend work are available via an overtime scheme. 

​

Contract type: Fixed term until 31st August 2025. (Contract expected to be extended dependent on performance).

​

Closing date: Friday 2nd February 2023 (please note that we may close early should we receive sufficient interest).

Interview date: Interviews will take place from the week beginning 5th February 2024. 

​

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

​

  • To plan and deliver high quality and engaging 1-2-1 and small group mentoring sessions, PE lessons, and rugby sessions. 

  • To inspire children to lead an active, healthy, happy lifestyle.

  • Maintain the health and safety of those involved in your sessions.

  • To monitor and evaluate sessions to improve the quality and impact. 

  • Effectively manage school relationships, acting as the main point of contact with the school/s.

  • To communicate regularly and effectively with schools, coaches and colleagues.

  • Establish positive relationships with children, their parents and staff in schools, day in, day out.

  • Support the broader work of Switch Rugby Ltd, which may include administration tasks and events.

Personal Specification

​

Essential: 

​

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with primary and secondary school-aged and college-aged children. 

  • Hold a UKCC Level 1 coaching qualification. 

  • A full, clean driving license and access to own transport. 

  • A passion for inspiring children to fall in love with sport and to enjoy being active.

  • Ability to form positive relationships with primary school children and their families, and school staff. 

  • An open mindset to develop themselves and others. 

  • To manage time effectively. 

  • Be able to work as part of a team, but also lead on own initiative. 

  • Be an honest, clear communicator. 

  • Be flexible in dealing with change, to meet business needs as required. 

  • IT literate, across Microsoft platforms. 

 

Desirable: 

​

  • Hold a UKCC Level 2 coaching qualification in Rugby or qualified teacher status. 

  • Hold a UKCC Level 1 coaching qualification in one or more additional sports. 

  • Level 3 Paediatric First Aid or First Aid at Work qualification (this can be completed when in post).

  • Hold a safeguarding qualification at Level 2 (this can be completed when in post).

  • Previous experience of coaching in primary and/or secondary schools.

  • Have experience of rugby academy performance pathways
