Switch Rugby Academy

Player Development Programme

These sessions are aimed at unlocking the potential in aspiring young rugby players in order for them to access more challenging environments within academy development programmes and talent pathways.

The sessions are delivered through a mixture of high-tempo contact and non-contact game play and practices.  Fun through challenge is a key factor in the design of these sessions with activities focussed on improving technical skill, tactical decision-making and teamwork.  This is under-pinned by regular immediate one to one feedback from coaches throughout the sessions.

Developing character and resilience are also key aspects of the programme in preparing young players to thrive in future challenging environments.

We run the sessions for U12/13 Boys and girls across the Bristol/Bath area.

My 3 year old daughter has loved learning how to play rugby with Matt. She has learnt lots of new physical skills but also been able to practise turn taking and listening to instructions. It’s really fun to spend time with her doing something new and we both look forward to our weekly sessions.

Nem - Rugby Cubs Parent

Our three year old grandson has attended Rugby Cub sessions since they began and it has been a high spot of his day when we look after him. Matt plans appropriate and fun activities which develop rugby skills and cooperative play, not always easy with 3 and 4 year olds. Our grandson confidently talks about snake runs, cuddle catches and tagging and during lockdown he ‘became Matt the Coach’ and designed and led a session for his family in their garden. Matt has developed a great relationship with his young rugby players and they thoroughly enjoy his company reflected by the enthusiastic high fives at the end of the session. Thank you Matt.
